i personally like a background/border as well. maybe @Akshay has opinions on the design

Hmm haven't played around with this. Not sure what would look nice, don't think I would like just a border. I could play around with it but knowing myself, I would spend too much time trying things out 😅.

I think with custom theming you can target the codehilite class in the meantime?
