Loading Workspace Files Took Too Long

At a glance

The community member is experiencing an issue with the Marimo screen, where they are frequently receiving a message and are unable to work as they had hoped. The comments suggest that the issue may be related to the large number of files and subfolders in the directory being used, which could be causing the Marimo screen to take a long time to search. The community members discuss potential solutions, such as avoiding following symlinks, and suggest that the issue may be improved by stopping the search at some point and providing a result.

Lately, maybe for the past two weeks or so, I've been getting this message from the Marimo screen. I can sometimes get it to work, but most of the time now it's just this message. Any ideas on how to correct? I was hoping not to open new shell and browser window for every single project so I've been using the parent directory when I open Marimo.

Do you have a lot of files in your existing directory? It’s likely searching for quite a long time, so maybe it’s going down a folder that should be ignored. Can you share details about what’s in your directory at a high level
dir = "dev":
  • 17 subfolder
  • each subfolder has subfolders and some can have a lot of data folders
Some of them have shortcuts to another folder. Those aren't followed, are they?
we shouldn't be following symlinks. ill see if we can improve it further by stopping as some point and giving you some result
